Emerging from the heart of Southern California’s surf scene, it was only natural for the La Jolla born to earn a nickname befitting of the lifestyle he embodied. They call him “Surfrat.”
Beyond the shore, Surfrat’s ambitions were bursting at the seams to feed his need for speed. Carlsbad Raceway became home for this quest. And behind the handlebars, he became noted for his performance, piloting works 2 strokes #308 amid the motocross and Supercross circuits. Surfrat simultaneously rose amid the ranks at such venues as Amago Raceway for being a fast man behind the wheel of ShiftKarts and touted national acclaim. As he rose through the ranks of his motorsports careers, Surfrat managed to venture up into the announcer tower in between motos, taking reigns of the mic and calling races with an alluring insight and enthusiasm that equaled the notably engaging entertainment factor.
Surfrat eventually retired from his career in Supercross in 1991 and #38 Drivin ShifterKarts in 2001 and opted for slower lifestyle and moved to Arizona. Though not one remove himself entirely from the scenes that fashioned a fast paced career for him throughout the 80s and 90s, his passion for motorsports gained momentum yet again, in the form of new career opportunities, leading him on the road once again with an Indy car team. The demanding schedule tugged at his heart. After a few years, he dedicated his life to focus upon his family, specifically his two young daughters. It was during this more relaxed episode of his life, Surfrat discovered live web streaming. It was only natural, that by 2008, he would apply his years motorsports announcing to the new interactive medium. And being steeped in the heart of the desert, where his dad raced off-road since the 70s, live video was married his motorsports passion and his talent unique talent to engage an audience.
